My Green List:
Business -
Be as paperless as possible
provide other small businesses with resources so they can become green too
recycle paperwaste
At home -
We a recycling a 1980 mobile home to live on our property until we can build so... that is a huge recycling project. Including some great deals on lightly used appliances, remnants. As far as everyday home life practice the 3r's as much as possible. We are not perfect by far and improvement is part of the growing process. Once we are on the property I already has all my CFL's, and I want a compost bin and a rain barrel to be my next steps!

My Green Living List:
Recycling all glass, plastic, and cardboard

Using plastic grocery sacks in wastebaskets instead of buying new trash bags

Cleaning with essential oils instead of harmful chemicals, reusing the same spray bottle to reduce plastic waste.

Saving, washing and reusing zip storage bags and containers from purchased food.

Increasing internet for business advertising and mailings to reduce paper.

Using phosphate free laundry and dishwashing detergents

Diffusing essential oils to increase oxygen instead of synthetic chemical deodorizers and plug ins that pollute the atmosphere.

Buying organic foods to support the farmers and growers who use sustainable, earthfriendly methods. Local when available.

Next year our family is buying a share in an organic farm to become part of community supported agriculture in our area.

Here's what we're doing to be more green:
My husband and I save all our errand running downtown and do it all together in one car.
We bought an energy efficient washer and dryer
I only use the short wash cycle, with cold water if possible, and hang dry anything I can.
I have a garden and buy local produce to reduce the need for products to get here by methods using fossil fuels.
We eat more raw foods; fruit as a side dish with meals, salads with home grown veggies and my own lemons for dressing.
I am very careful to buy as much U.S. made as I can.
My husband changed the light bulbs throughout his school to the energy efficient kind.
His school finished a large building project and had an architect design the building "green."
His engineering department had a car donated by Toyota and converted it completely electric. They plan to do this with more cars and donate some of them to be used at the wind farm on the island. Our maintenance department will also be using these electric cars to run their errands on the island.

We have done everything in our power to reduce, reuse, and recycle in our day-to-day habits. This includes sharing one car and using public transportation, avoiding unnecessary trips and combining errands, replacing appliances, having our home audited for energy use, patronizing businesses that are close to our home and buying second hand items for almost every purpose.

Additionally, I write a website about sustainable fashion and beauty and work to get the word out about environmentally and socially responsible companies, designers and manufacturers. I'd love to include your site in my shopping directory!

Thanks!

Amanda

three years I took the plunge and committed to live a sparkling green, sustainable lifestyle. the first year i threw out all toxic substances from my home and garden. i make sure my cosmetics, shampoo, lotion are healthful not harmful. my cleaners including laundry soap are are eco-savvy. i compost at home and at work, as well as recycle religiously.

Last year I committed to using beeswax candles and started selling them to friends. I also made severe changes to my wardrobe focusing on sweat-shop free, organic if affordable, and am definitely big on vintage. My finds focus on quality and longevity as well as style.

I am a true believer in slow fashion (as well as slow food, and slow bicycles) my transportation motto: "style over speed." i do not drive a car, but instead elect to walk, use public transit or ride my awesome electric scooter the eGo LX2.

This year I joined Slow Food as a birthday present to myself, and was honored to attend the SLow Food Nation event held in San Francisco a few weeks back. I also just recently rented a studio where I'll be making all sorts of lovely things using recycled materials. So far I've exploring assemblages, collage and reconstructed vintage fashions.

My next goal: a victory garden for my apartment complex (I've already started a virulent container garden) and helping my mother set up her backyard to grow seasonal organic produce.
